Sewer System Management Plan
The Sewer System Management Plan is the District’s plan for operating and maintaining its sewer system so that sewage stays in the pipes and out of homes, streets and Lake Almanor. The State Water Resources Control Board requires every public agency with more than one mile of sewer line to have a plan, keep it up to date, and make it available to the public.
Chester’s sewer system serves about 1,100 homes and businesses through about 18 miles of sewer main, 240 manholes and four lift stations. Wastewater is treated in six stabilization ponds followed by four wetland ponds.
The plan covers system maintenance, how the District responds to sewer overflows, the fats, oils and grease program, capacity planning, and public communication.
